StartGreen Award 2019: Laureates have been selected!

With their innovative strength, green start-ups make an important contribution to effectively and entrepreneurially master the great challenges of our time. This is why we at SDG INVESTMENTS are proud to support the StartGreen Award, one of the most important awards of the green start-up scene in Germany, as the main partner for the second time this year.

“We are awarding the StartGreen Award for the fifth year in a row. Once again, we are delighted with the quality and diversity of the approaches submitted. More than 250 submissions speak for themselves as to how well the green start-up scene in Germany has developed since the first award,” explains Prof. Dr. Klaus Fichter, Director of the StartGreen Award and Director of the Borderstep Institute for Innovation and Sustainability, initiator of the competition.

This year we have decided to award a “SDG 12: Circular Economy” prize, due to the fact that plastic in the oceans, growing mountains of rubbish and the scarcity of natural resources show us daily the importance of a transformation towards a functioning circular economy.

The award ceremony took place in Berlin on the 20th of November under the patronage of the Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze. The decision to select a winner was a difficult task due to the exciting and high-quality pitches of the three finalists. Superseven (compostable packaging solutions), SUMTEQ (recyclable insulation) and circular.fashion (textile recycling) competed for 1st place in the category SDG 12: Circular Economy.

In the end, circular.fashion from Berlin was the winner. Our managing director Frank Ackermann justified the jury’s decision in the laudation as follows: “Products will continue to be produced, so changes must already be made during the production. This is exactly where circular.fashion comes in and its digital solution makes it possible to considerably extend the life cycle of clothing. From our point of view, this has the greatest impact”.

Circular.fashion wants to turn today’s textile products into tomorrow’s resources. With a digital industry 4.0 solution for a resource-efficient recycling economy, the start-up is revolutionizing the disposable system of the fashion industry. The company offers the textile industry a software solution to create a complete network between material suppliers, fashion brands, consumers and recyclers for the first time. This means that the cycle for textiles can be closed along the entire value chain.

All three finalists can look forward to a comprehensive support package. Funkelfeuer offers a coaching package focusing on business plan analysis and business model optimization. Together with PrimeCrowd, we will support the start-ups in attracting suitable investors for the further development of the company.

We would like to thank the Borderstep Institute for the first-class organization of the StartGreen Award, but also our partners Funkelfeuer and PrimeCrowd for the excellent cooperation and look forward to the StartGreen Award 2020!
